Landfill Directive
Under the Landfill Directive the government has issues and targets to reduce the amont of biodegradable and municalple waste:
• By 2010 to reduce biodegradable municipal waste landfilled to 75% of that produced in 1995
• By 2013 to reduce biodegradable municipal waste landfilled to 50% of that produced in 1995
• By 2020 to reduce biodegradable municipal waste landfilled to 35% of that produced in 1995
The government is using both legislation and taxes to encourage businesses to implement an effective recycling scheme.
By baling your cardboard and plastic in a Mil-tek baler you can reduce your waste costs by up to 80%. By removing your cardboard, plastic and other recyclable materials from your general waste you can increase recycling and avoid landfill tax increases.
Pre-treatment legislation came into force in the UK in October 2007 and requires waste to be pre-treated before being sent to landfill. By sorting, baling and recycling, you are complying with pre-treatment legislation.
Recycling your waste will also dramatically reduce your waste costs by avoiding the rising landfill tax increases of £8 per year until 2013.
